Heart Attack and Loving Zumba
By: Chris (A class participant)

How grateful I am to be alive: It was Christmas of 2009 when I woke up to begin a day of celebrating Christmas with my family, opening gifts, socializing with family, having a Christmas dinner in my home, and being thankful for everything I have.

It was Christmas morning and my family and I are going to my husband’s parents for breakfast, shortly after breakfast I started not to feel good, nauseous, heartburn and tired. We left shortly, on the ride home I just complained all the way about not feeling well. I got home went to the bathroom and told my son to go get his father, from that moment on I don’t remember too much. I went through the motions but I don’t remember any of them, at this time I had company starting to come over, we opened gifts, took pictures, and ready to start our Christmas holiday cheer when I went to the kitchen with my husband following me I was looking in the fridge turned and I just passed out, my husband yelled for help, my daughter called 911 and with the quick reaction of my son, he ran out and got my neighbor, she came in to help my husband do CPR on me. If it wasn’t for her and my husband I would be dead today. The firemen and ambulance came shortly, they took over, I flat lined two times, and the firemen had to use a defibrillator to get my heart beating again. They brought me back and I’m a miracle to be here today. The fireman in charge told my family that if it wasn’t for my neighbor and my husband doing CPR on me I wouldn’t have survived or I would have had brain damage. I woke up in CCU. Dr. Amr Morsi did angioplasty and I had a blocked artery, I had a stent put in. After my recovery 2 months later I started the program at the cardiac centre and in August I was given a clean bill of health. I’m able to continue doing my exercises that I use to do eat sensibly and continue my medication to keep my heart pumping normally. I am able to go to Heather's Zumba classes which I love, I have never felt so good.

Thanks Heather for making me strong again.
